Caminos Program Evaluation

The SCCOE received money from the Community Service Grant Program of the California Department of Education in order to develop positive community-based internships for suspended and expelled youth in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and Monterey counties.  Ceres Policy Research worked WITH education administrators, education staff, and community based organizations in all three counties to evaluate the Abriendo Caminos a la Comunidad (Caminos) program. This evaluation had a multiple-method design. Parent and youth surveys were collected from participants. Youth were also interviewed.  The findings were compiled into a formal evaluation  as well as a working paper.

Emergency Response Crisis Management Grant Evaluation

The SCCOE has received funds from the federal government to coordinate the emergency response and crisis management systems for all of the schools in the county. Ceres Policy Research assisted the SCCOE to develop assessment instruments of staff skills, classroom hazards, and school-site preparedness. The analysis of these assessments over time will help administrators hone their emergency plans as well as show how schools can improve their plans and level of preparedness over time.

Workforce Investment Act Contract Monitoring

Ceres Policy Research monitored the Barrios Unidos subcontract to the SCCOE for the 2003-4 and 2004-5 contract years; the Your Future Is Our Business subcontract to the SCCOE for the 2003-4, 2005-6, and 2006-7 contract years; and the Community Action Board subcontract to the SCCOE for the 2005-6 and 2006-7 contract yearS.  This contract monitoring process is required by the Workforce Investment Act and the Workforce Investment Board of Santa Cruz County.  The monitoring process determines whether subcontractors are meeting the scope of work, fiscal, and administrative requirements outlined in their contract.
