Motivation
and Maintenance (M&M) Programs provide dropout prevention
and student achievement strategies for historically low-achieving
public schools in California. The California Dropout Prevention
Network hired Ceres Policy Research to provide
a preliminary assessment of whether schools receiving M&M
support services perform better than other low-achieving schools.
Elizabeth Morgan, a doctoral student in the Social Psychology
Department at U.C. Santa Cruz assisted Dr. Irvine with this project. This study was based on analysis of data from the California
Department of Education, including Academic Performance Index
(API) improvement rates, graduation rate improvement, English/Language
Arts test participation rates and scores, and mathematics
test participation rates and scores. This analysis is available
in our final report.
