California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Grant to Plan Services for Santa Cruz County Parolees

Ceres Policy Research is collaborating with the Community Action Board, the Community Restoration Project, the Volunteer Centers of Santa Cruz County, Friends Outside, the Santa Cruz Parole Office, and the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency Alcohol and Drug Program to assess the needs of Santa Cruz County Parolees and develop a plan for the development of reentry services.  This process is being driven by the bottom up:  Data collected directly from parolees and their families will form the foundation of the plan while parolees themselves will take a lead on the planning process.

Camino Nuevo

Funded by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, a collaboration of the Santa Cruz Probation Department, Barrios Unidos, the Community Action Board, and Youth Services is developing a culturally responsive evening center for youth living in the northern portion of Santa Cruz County.  The goal of this program is to provide mental health and job development services to youth with non-violent offenses.  Each youth is assigned to a Probation Officer and Youth Services counselor.  Youth will also be referred to support groups, job development services, and leadership development activities located at Barrios Unidos and the Community Action Board.

Community Restoration Project Strategic Planning and Grant Writing Assistance

Ceres Policy Research provided strategic planning and grant writing assistance for the Community Restoration Project. Historically, the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County (CAB) has run the Youth Community Restoration Project (YCORP), YCORP offers young people an alternative to detention by providing weekend work experience, support service referrals, and leadership development opportunities. As a result of YCORP's success, CAB has created an adult work program as an alternative to jail. Combined with YCORP, this new program will be called Community Restoration Project (CRP). Ceres Policy Research worked with CAB to develop a logic model and a data collection system for the CRP.
